Issac Alcalay, Chief Rabbi of Yugoslavia ->
In 1911 he became Chief Rabbi of Serbia and then in 1923 he became Chief Rabbi of Yugoslavia.

Siegmann Apfelmann, Manager ->
started his commercial activity in the saw mills. Since 1908 he is the director of the wood department of the "Zilina Cellulose Factory" in Zilina.

Otto Arnold, Manager ->
is the Manager of the "Anker Insurance Company", Aussig branch and Dramaturgist at the "Volkstheater" in Munich. He owns a film production company and is Editor of the "Teplitzer Zeitung".

Félix Avedik, Lawyer ->
took a successful part in organizing the Counter Revolution against the Bolsheviks in 1919; then he studied art with F. Szablya-Frischoff in Budapest. He has exhibited paintings and sketches.

Oskar Baum, Author ->
has been blind since his 12th year through an unhappy accident. In 1902 he took the state examination in music and then became an organist and a music teacher in Prague. He has been awarded the Czechoslovak State Prize for German Literature in 1932 for his novels.

Stephan Count Bethlen von Bethlen, Royal Hungarian Minister ->
began his political career in 1901 as a Member of Parliament and was active for an independent Hungary.

Jean Borgovan, Composer and physician ->
is a composer specializing in Rumanian songs; as a physician he specializes in internal diseases and diseases of the skin.

Ivan Bojadschiew, Architect and Painter ->
is a director of the Railways and is also active as a painter and as an architect for all colonization houses of railway clerks. He has also built all the hospitals and sanatoriums. Paintings by him are in the National Museum at Sofia.

Grigorije Bozovic, Author and publicist ->
started out as Professor, later became Prefect of the county, then Inspector of the Ministry and was a Member of Parliament until 1929.

Karel Capek, Author and journalist ->
started writing while a student and conjointly with his brother Joseph produced short stories. After completing his studies, he devoted himself entirely to literature.

Peter Cech, General Manager, First Czech Mutual Insurance Company ->
From 1902 he has devoted his life to insurance and entered the service of the Cracovian Insurance Company.

George Chelmis, Theater Director ->
is involved in the fabrication of cigarettes at Cairo, A. Chelmis & Company: "The pearls of Egypt Cigarette", which he founded in 1871. He is also director of the Theatre Cotopouli (in winter) and the Theatre Marica (for the summer months).

Augustinowicz de Odrowaz, Ladislawa Dabrowska, Paintress ->
His education and artistical instruction was received in Cracow. She began in this city with her artistical career, participating in the organization of artistical life in Cracow.

Ignacy Dygas, Artist at the Warsaw Opera-House ->
started his career as a dramatical tenor in Italy, Spain, and South America and became first tenor of the Imperial Russian Opera before 1918.

Viktor Eglitis, Author, Chief-Teacher, Censor ->
In 1902 he became more interested in symbolism through a psychological breakdown.

Georges Georgesco, General Director of Philarmonie ->
His first appearance as a violoncellist in Berlin was in 1910-1912. Two fingers of his left hand became paralyzed. He then became a conductor; his first appearance was in Berlin after the War and then in Bucharest. He has been conducting all the great orchestras of the world.

Anne (Anne Roselle) Gyenge von Miklosvár, Opera, Concert Singer ->
Started with a stage engagement in Budapest; made Debut as an opera singer in 1921 at the Metropolitan Opera, New York. She later sang in the U.S.A. in almost every city and debuted in Vienna in 1925 as "Butterfly".

Mato Hanzekowic, Doctor of Law, writer ->
In 1911 he was a judge in Bosnia, in 1920 he became a lawyer in Bosnia and since 1917 he has been entirely devoted to literary work. He is of the opinion that there is no ethic to be found in the job of a lawyer.

Maks Hurt, Director of the Chamber of Commerce ->
After having completed University studies he was employed with a Russian-American Rubber Manufacturer in St. Petersburg, eventually becoming manager of a branch-office.

M. Jovan Jovanovic, Ex-Minister ->
At first a juridical career, then diplomatic service as Attaché of the Ministry of Foreign Affaires in Sofia, Athens, Constantinople, Cetinje and Skoplje.

Hermann Keyserling, Writer and Lecturer ->
inherited the estates of Koenno, Kerkau and Raykull in Russia in 1908 and lived there until 1918 when he was dispossessed by Russian Revolution.

Francesco Mameli, Minister of Italy in Riga ->
was eleven months at the frontier, was twice wounded and began his diplomatic career in 1920 with the Ministry in Rome. He became secretary to the Cabinet of S.E.B. Mussolini with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Djoko Mazalic, Artist painter; diploma teacher for drawing ->
At the beginning of the World War was confined in Arad, Rumania. He was first Lieutenant in the Austro-Hungarian Army from 1915 to 1918. Since that time he became an artist painter in Sarajevo and Belgrade. For many years he has been chairman and secretary of the Artist's Union in Sarajevo.

Wanda Melcer, Novelist and Publicist ->
Her first poetries were printed in "Sfinks" in 1914; her first exhibition of portraits in 1918. Afterwards she ceased to paint.

Paja Radosavljevitch, Professor of Pedagogy; writer ->
After having worked a short time as teacher in Asonja, he devoted himself to Philosophical and Pedagogical Sciences in Vienna, Jena and Zurich, where he graduated Doctor of Philosophy. After having worked for some time as Professor of Pedagogy and of the German language, he left his country and went to America to devote himself to the study of experimental psychology and pedagogy. Working in the laboratory of New York University; he became first Lecturer and then a Professor. Extensive activity on psychology and sociology in Serbian, Russian, German and the English language.

Václav Sedlácek, Dramatic and professional writer ->
On account of his Antihabsburg-Politic and his sympathy for the political circle "Omladine" he was excluded from the University and left the country to escape punishment. Later on he was amnestied and then he devoted himself to the theatre, where he appeared as a Tenor with a first class Czech Society.

Albert Ferdinand Sever, Former member of the Austrian National Assembly ->
He learned the butcher's trade, and became workman in a factory.

Bohuslav Sida, Director of Town-Library ->
is now director and librarian of a Town-Library. He was a Miner in Germany, a dock-worker in Holland, a secretary for a Workers Association, and an Editor. He studied in Archives and Libraries and he has traveled all over Europe and the Orient.

Anna Slonczynska (De Vertno), Poetress ->
After having completed her studies she became completely devoted to literature. In 1926, her first volume of poetry was published. Besides her literary activity she is devoted entirely to relief work.

Andrew (pen name: Galecki Taddeus) Strug, Literary Man ->
During the Russian Regime he was arrested (1895) for Polish political activities and after a one and a half year stay in Russian prison he was exiled to Archangesk (on the White Sea). Upon returning he was active in the Polish Socialist Party and became the editor of the illegal Peasant Paper "Gazeta Ludowa" . He then began his literary career, participated in the revolution of 1905 and was arrested, sentenced to prison and exiled from the country. From 1908-1914 he lived in Paris and kept busy on his literary works. He took an active part in the World War from 1914 to 1916 as a volunteer in the Polish Legion. Afterwards he kept busy again with his literary works and participated in the Independence Action of Poland during the German occupation of his country. In 1928 he was elected to the Senate of the Independent Polish Republic.

Georg B. Szveteney de Nagy-Ohay, Artistic painter; Colonel in reserve, astrologer ->
During the World War from 1914-1917 he fought on the Polish front; on the Rumanian and Italian fronts, and from 1917 until the end of the war adjutant with the VII. army, then in Odessa. After the bolshevism began in August 1919 he became Chief of the "group de liaison" of the French General Graziani and the French Admiral Fatout. He then retired from service and occupied himself with astrological and spiritualist studies as a painter and writer.

Virgiliu Vachiotti, Macedonia ->
A merchant and baker, he is now Mayor of Constanza.

Marie Bianka Joanne Countess Wielopolska, Writer and journalist ->
Since she was 13 years old she has written for newspapers in Lwów, Cracow and Warsaw. The year 1912 was decisive for her, she got in connection with political conspiratory spheres and devoted all her literary activity to the Polish independence and to the party of Marshal Pilsudski.

Alma Woodruff, Principal of American School ->
She was a teacher for 10 years in Cleveland, Ohio, was married in 1911, and came to Bulgaria as a missionary. After her husband's death in 1922 she started the American Grade School of Sofia.

Auguste Count Zamoyski, Sculptor ->
Between his 16th to 18th year he started to work on social economy, but soon got disgusted by it. He wrote many articles on plastic arts and gave conferences. He is a sculptor and especially works with granite which he cuts from the block. He formerly belonged to the Communist Party of Vienna, which he left in 1922. Now he spends his leisure hours on his yacht "Lotus Blanc" and does not take any active part in public life.

Thadeusz (pen name: Boy-Zelenski) Zelenski, Medical Doctor, Man of Letters ->
He was a physician, then he abandoned medicine for literature. He's now a poet, humorist, essayist, critic, translator and a journalist.
