was Orthodox Church precentor up to 1913 and since 1914 a priest. He
distributed food supplies during the famine in Anatolia. Up to 1918
he was with the government occupied with the affairs of the Orthodox population.
After the armistice the Patriarchat of Fener proclaimed the adhesion
of the Orthodox Turks to Greece; this decision had been submitted to
us but I refused to accept it, considering it as an act of
insurrection and I declared the separation of the Orthodox Turks from
the Greek Church in 1919. I participated in the revolution of Kemal
Pasha and I founded a new provisionary church in Ankara and began to
form the religious part of the movement. Definitive separation from
Greece was proclaimed in 1922. I remain the Chief of the Orthodox
Turks now as in the past. Since 1924 I am in Istanbul.

went to High School in Russia. He was a Turkish citizen until 1912
and during that time he was a member of Yugoslavian-Turkish Party. He
started out as a Professor, later became Prefect of the county, then
Inspector of the Ministry; and he was a Member of Parliament until
1929.

As a member of the committee for the establishment of the
Greek
refugees coming over from Asia-Minor and Thracia after the defeat of
the Hellenic army in Asia-Minor, he collaborated together with his
colleagues from Netherlands, America and England who were also
nominated by the League of Nations. They have been successful to
accomplishing the very great task to settle about one million and a
half of refugees over the whole Greek territory.
